Cervantes Day

A day devoted to the figure of Miguel de Cervantes to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the publication of Part Two of Don Quijote de la Mancha.


Speakers included two experts from the University of Dhaka: Professor Fakrul Alam, who gave a talk on El Quijote and English Novels, and Assistant Professor Rafique-um-Munir Chowdhury, translator of a children's version of Don Quixote. The University of Santiago de Compostela was represented by Professor Santiago Fernández Mosquera, Academic Director of the Inditex Chair and a specialist in classical Spanish literature. The various speakers analysed the influence of Cervantes’ work on world literature and the relevance of translations of his books into Bengali.

The day ended with the screening of El Caballero Don Quijote, the 2002 film version of Cervantes' famous novel directed by Miguel Gutiérrez Aragón.
