As part of its commitment to promoting Spanish culture in Dhaka and bringing Spanish theatre to the students of the Inditex Chair, a theatrical performance by the Spanish theatre company Ultramarinos de Lucas was held on 13 November 2025.
The production recreates the lecture delivered by Federico García Lorca at Madrid’s Residencia de Estudiantes in 1928 on Spanish lullabies. Actor Jorge Padín and singer Elena Aranoa travelled to Dhaka to present this unique combination of music and spoken word to the Chair’s students and the wider Bangladeshi community.

The event took place on 13 November 2025 at the Institute of Modern Languages, which houses the Inditex Chair. It marked the theatre company’s second performance, following the production staged the previous day at a venue in central Dhaka with the support of both the Inditex Chair and the Embassy of Spain in Bangladesh.
The performance was also a resounding success, particularly by the standards of this type of event. It received widespread praise for its elegance, refinement, and originality. Despite access to the campus being disrupted on the day of the performance, the venue was nearly full, and the students responded enthusiastically, thoroughly enjoying both the production and its musical elements.
Once again, the event demonstrated one of the Inditex Chair’s greatest strengths: its ability to bring authentic expressions of Spanish culture to students of Spanish as a second language in Bangladesh. Experiences of this kind play a vital role in renewing students’ motivation and enthusiasm for learning the language.
